The End of Rammagedon?
As powerful memory chips are currently in hot demand due to the AI boom, are Singaporeans turning to used desktop PCs during 'RAMmagedon'? I present a current business case study in this article, centred on a real decision I am facing as the owner of a used desktop PC business.
I first investigate the existence of a value proposition of purchasing a used desktop PC. In this analysis, I will only analyze PCs with an AMD CPU and NVIDIA GPU.
For a Ryzen 5 7500F | RTX 5060 | 16GB (SC) | 1TB SSD Gaming PC, the current S$ dollar to FPS offered by Singapore prebuilt brands such as Aftershock (S$1,700), InvaderPC (S$1,465) and Dreamcore (S$1,650) averages to S$3.82 per FPS compared to S$2.40 per FPS from PCBRO.SG (S$1,300).
Not surprisingly, PCBRO.SG's older systems offer better price to performance as well. As Carousell seeks to introduce the Certified label from PCBRO.SG. Should PCBRO pay Carousell a 4% commission for every sale?

Notes: We used Valorant average FPS (420) as benchmark. Instead of offering single-channel (SC) memory, PCBRO.SG's used desktop PC used dual-channel (DC) memory, hence the average FPS (540) is higher at 1080p settings.
